Once we reached Malecon 21, I was looking forward to a lovely beach day. We checked in, and were taken to our front row seats which we paid extra for. I had reserved a beach bed, which turned out to be a small, round (about 5' diameter) beach chair with an uncomfortable vinyl covering. Tip, don't go for the beach "nest" and stick with the regular chairs. Also, don't bother paying extra for the front row. We had also paid for the gold day pass, which was almost $400 for the 3 of us. This all inclusive price included an open bar and only 1 food item from their menu. This was mistake #2, as anyone can simply walk up and use their beach amenities by simply ordering from their restaurant. We paid a premium and got less than just ordering ala carte. I had read rave reviews of great service, however we received terrible service. Regularly I would be looking around for a waiter when they were frequently gathered talking and not serving customers. If the servers had visited half as much as the pushy beach vendors, things would have been great. We couldn't go more than a few minutes without being subjected to vendors trying to sell everything from coconuts to bracelets to shell crafts, even heavy blankets. Everything but the cocktails I wanted to order. The alcohol used in the cocktails was seriously watered down. Even when I asked for doubles, I wasn't able to get a buzz. After 5 margaritas, I should be in very buzzy head space. I couldn't even get to tipsy. I'm not a heavy drinker but enjoy a buzzy beach day so this should have been easy. The food was great, but because we had purchased the day pass we were limited to just 1 dish. Had to pay extra for a small plate of guac. Had I paid menu pricing, my personal bill would have only been half of the package price I paid. I paid double premium for absolutely nothing. On top of it all, the beach was awful. The water is murky so you can't see your feet, the sand bottom was so mushy it felt like you were sinking in baby diarrhea with every step. Because they serve glass bottles there were shards of glass throughout the sand, making it dangerous to walk barefoot. Another guest's dog peed on my daughter's only towel (they don't have towels for your use). And our neighbor guest was blaring crappy country music loudly on his Bluetooth speaker, completely ruining the vibe of a beautiful beach day. Staff did not intervene even when asked. Malecon 21 had good food, but don't pay for the overpriced passes and just pay as you go. We paid a premium for a non premium experience so I hope this post will help others avoid the same!

The BEST food I’ve had in Mexico was here! Super relaxing and good service. Bring toys if you have kids. Good music and great chairs in the shade

It's a must-visit in Mahahual... I went for dinner with my family and the food was truly delicious, it's worth it and I definitely recommend the place, peaceful and with all the atmosphere of a beachfront restaurant... I went to look at the stars and it's incredible.
