La Oaxaqueña — Bacalar brings the rich culinary heritage of Oaxaca straight to the lagoon town, offering an experience rooted in authentic Mexican tradition and honest flavors. This is a restaurant with a strong identity, where traditional cuisine takes center stage, paired with a warm, relaxed, and genuinely local atmosphere.

The menu at La Oaxaqueña is deeply inspired by classic Oaxacan recipes, a cuisine known for its complex sauces, deep flavors, and high-quality local ingredients. Here you’ll find dishes such as mole, tlayudas, tacos, and a variety of meat and vegetarian options, all prepared with respect for traditional techniques. The flavors are bold, layered, and authentic, staying true to their roots rather than being overly modernized.

Drinks are an important part of the experience as well, with cold beer, mezcal, traditional Mexican beverages, and refreshing mixed drinks that naturally complement the food. This makes La Oaxaqueña not only a place to eat, but also a great spot for relaxed evenings with drinks and conversation.

The overall vibe at La Oaxaqueña is cozy, friendly, and grounded, reflecting the spirit of regional Mexican culture. It’s a place where you can slow down, enjoy your meal, and connect with real Mexican flavors, far from tourist clichés. A great choice for lunch, dinner, or a meaningful culinary stop while exploring Bacalar.

I am mexican and can totally say this is an authentic mexican experience and delicious food. For so many reasons, hard to enlist all here. We ate barbacoa de pollo (chicken barbeque) and costilla de res en salsa verde (green sauce beef ribs) and the sauces were godly (the secret of mexican food is the sauce). They make the tortillas, blue corn, right there and in the open, a lady with artistic hands moving them over. The music goes straight to the mexican soul. And all staff is beautiful... beautiful authentic smile, politeness, willingness to help. The place is simpñe but arranged with simple beauty design in mind... and lots of planta, hanging even in Coca Cola and old soap containers. The truly, authentic experience of a Mexican restaurant, harder to find these days... a jewel! Thankful for finding it and made happy by the song and taste and smile.

Unfortunately, we came here following the reviews and it was simply a disappointment. The food was very bland and we simply did not enjoy any of the dishes we ordered.
